Sabre - Marvel / Barefoot (w/Ulterior Motive) [Critical]
Released 15/02/10

Sabre's album 'A Wandering Journal' will without doubt be one of the highlights of the year. Originally labelled as a 'liquid' producer, he is today one of the finest producers of his generation, crafting stunning pieces of drum & bass with seeming ease. To build the excitement even further, this LP sampler drops with two tracks that are at polar opposites of the d&b spectrum, and which confirm his versatitly and imagination in the studio. Marvel is stripped back, 'minimal' d&b at its finest with a sparse kick & rim shot drum line and deep bassline. The flip seems him pair up with new comers Ulterior Motive for a techy dancefloor track reminiscent of older Ed Rush & Optical productions. Do not miss this.

Edward Oberon - Paradise / Uptown [Creative Source]
Released: 15/02/10

His track 'Noir' was one of the tunes of 2009 for me (it rightly featured in the edj top 10) and after what seems like an eternity of waiting these two soulful dancefloor tunes finally see the light of day on Creative Source. Personally speaking I have been desperate to get my hands on 'Uptown' for an age - pure party vibes. Definitely keep an eye on Mr Oberon this year as he has a whole host of quality music in the pipeline.

System - Peach Fuzz / Voices [Exit]
Release 15/02/10

System has quitely gone about building himself an exemplary reputation as a producer since his anthemic 'Near Miss' dropped on Digital Soundboy back in 2008. His releases are sporadic but always straight out the top drawer and this is perhaps his best to date. Truly inventive and original, it further inhances his aforemntioned reutation, aswell as that of d:Bridge's Exit label which seems to be churning out gem after gem with the air of someone who is at the very top of their game. Essential purchase.

Various - The Art EP [Cylon]
Released 15/02/10

A. June Miller - Poison The Well
B. Anile - Orthodox
C. Data feat K2 - Kyushojutsu
D. Dan HabarNam - One
Hallelujah! What on earth has been going on with Cylon's distribution is anyones guess as the label has been in some sort of weird hibernation for quite some time now. No more however as the sublime 'Art EP' finally hts the shops. 4 tracks that have been getting cained for months (more like years to be fair) on dubplate from Anile, June Miller, Data & Dan Habarnam. All deep, dark and moody as you'd expected from Loxy's imprint, the brooding roller 'Poison The Well' is my personal favourite from the 4, just pipping Data's sinister 'Kyushojutsu' to first place. Buy on sight because its good, but also because god knows when the next release will be.
