thats right folks, its that time of year when everyones favourite energy drink sponsored music event rolls into town, and this time that lucky town is merry ol' london. running from 7th february until the 12th march, the academy is an veritable extravaganza of musical treats. the academy itself is an intensive 4 week 'music university' with lectures from a whole host of assorted music industry big wigs and producers for the lucky few that have been selected to attend. aside from this, there are various activities and events dotted into these 4 weeks for oridinary joe's off the street too.
a bit of blurb for those perhaps who are more unfamiliar with what this is all about...
"The Red Bull Music Academy is a platform for those who shape our musical future, a music workshop that has been traveling the world since 1998. Setting up our EQ HQ for two fortnight-long 'terms' in a different musical metropolis each year, we pull together pioneers of days-gone-by and musical legends of tomorrow from all aspects of rhythm and sound. Now we're pitching bass camp on London's Tooley Street.
Each day there are two lecture sessions with some of the world's top producers, where our 60 selected students get to ask all kinds of burning questions, and discover closely-guarded secrets of mixing desk magic. It's a long list, but whether they're house dons like Theo Parish, or Larry Heard, techno heads like Derrick May or Moritz von Oswald, bass steppers like Skream, or Mala from DMZ, disco nuts like Prins Thomas or DJ Harvey, hip hop heavyweights like Just Blaze and ?uestlove, or just straight-up legends like Peter Hook or Bob Moog, they've all joined us on the couch for an honest insight into their musical minds - and many will follow in London.
Between times, Academy attendees record exclusive radio shows, meet in the lounge to chat about the latest gear or their homeland scenes, or gather in the studios set up for the occasion - turning their fresh knowledge into melodies and basslines. And when stars come out on the dark side of the moon, studio time will give way to signature concerts and club nights in some of London's most inspiring venues."
one of these 'signature' concerts and club nights is the rbma culture clash that takes place on the 17th feb at the camden roundhouse. it is without doubt one the most epic line-ups i have ever seen and promises to be a very special night indeed (despite the fact it falls on a week day). full details below:
